DG ISI General Shujaa Pasha has said Pakistan was caught unaware by the US operation.
Opposition and DG ISI exchanged bitter words time and again in the in-camera briefing of the parliament. Opposition leader in the Parliament, Ch. Nisar Ali said that all those responsible for intelligence failure should be identified and brought to justice and a punitive action must be taken against them.
The mood of the House turned edgy when Ch. Nisar emphatically told DG ISI Shuja Pasha that ‘brief us, don’t try to impose orders.’ On this, Pasha said he is ready to resign if the parliament wants him to leave. Neither Americans raised fingers over CIA after 9/11 incident nor Indians snubbed RAW after Mumbai attacks, only our intelligence agencies are being criticised after Osama raid, he emphasised.
Pasha revealed that he had offered his resignation to the army chief after the US operation. He said this unilateral operation has created trust-deficit between the two allies against war on terrorism. DG ISI said he was ready to face accountability at any forum.
Three services chiefs, including DG ISI, were also present during the briefing. Secretary Defence began the briefing but MPs objected to it and then DG ISI himself began the briefing. He informed the house Army had no prior knowledge of the US operation and it was a unilateral action. He said after Raymond Davis issue, the relations between the two countries were affected while May 2 incident further aggravated the situation and gave rise to many questions. He said he was honoured to brief the august house.
Earlier, prime minister said there were no differences between the civilian and military leaderships. Talking to media, Riaz Fatyana said that no one demanded resignation from the DG IDI but he himself offered his resignation.
