Valentino Rossi believes Marco Simoncelli overstepped the mark in his incident with Dani Pedrosa in the French Grand Prix.
Although Rossi has defended his friend Simoncelli amid the criticism the Gresini Honda rider has received from rivals in recent weeks, the former champion felt the clash at Le Mans today - which left Pedrosa with a broken collarbone - could have been avoided.
"I saw the problem between Marco and Dani just one time, but for me, this time Simoncelli was [riding] too hard," Rossi said.
"He didn't leave space for Dani. Coming from the outside, maybe he was braking harder, but maybe a bit too aggressive because Dani didn't have any room to do anything.
"I think it's also a mistake because I think Simoncelli at that part of the race was getting strong, so maybe don't overtake Dani at that braking point - overtake Dani on the next lap."
Rossi added that he felt great sympathy for Pedrosa, who had only just recovered from breaking his left collarbone at Motegi last year before sustaining the injury to the right-hand side today.
"Especially I'm so sorry for Dani because another injury is very bad. So good luck to him," said Rossi.
