Boston-based VA New England Healthcare System plans to bring Bedford (Mass.) VA Medical Center under its umbrella, if the national VA office will approve the move, according to a Boston Globe report.

Director of the VA New England System Michael Mayo-Smith, MD, said the move would make the system more similar to other VA networks, where one system typically serves an entire region. The merger will not include the closing of any facilities, but is intended to further integrate care, according to the VA.
